Officers group of Seven States Learned Entrepreneurship

Doubling farmers’ income requires entrepreneurship development and enhancing employment opportunities from horticulture sector. In this background, ICAR-CISH, Lucknow organized a Model Training Course on “Entrepreneurship Development through Market Driven Production and Processing of Horticultural Crops” during 10-17th September, 2018. The training was sponsored by Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India. District horticulture officers/ rural development officers/ extension personnels from seven different states viz., Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Bihar, Chattisgarh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh participated in the training program. The officers were aged from 30-59 years with about 20 per cent women participants. They were trained on entrepreneurial ecosystem, start ups, nursery, floriculture based enterprises, orchard based poultry farming, market driven production of exotic fruits in subtropics viz. strawberry and pepino, processing of fruits and vegetables, herbal cosmetics, essential oil extraction, hydroponics cultivation of vegetables, mushroom production, organic farming, inspection and certification of organic produce, FSSAI registration, protected cultivation, bio fertilizer production, packaging, branding, food safety laws, dry flower technology etc. Lecture session experts were drawn from ICAR, CSIR, IIT, SAU and Corporate Sector. The officers also interacted with progressive farmers and new entrepreneurs who have made their name in horticulture. They were taken on exposure visits of nursery, CISH experimental farms and Farmer FIRST program adopted villages. This training course included pre- and post-feedback evaluation and validation. The training course has given an insight of start ups and entrepreneurship to the horticulture officers which was very handy and could easily be implemented in their areas of operation. Dr. Rajan, Director ICAR-CISH, Lucknow informed that Government of India has sanctioned three Model Training Courses to the Institute this year. Two more MTCs will be organized in the Institute soon. Course Director, Dr. Maneesh Mishra informed that a WhatsApp Group of MTC participants has also been created to exchange technological advancements with each other.
